Guests celebrating under the northern lights on a Rovaniemi aurora hunt
Driving toward the clearest skies on a northern lights hunt in Lapland

Why hunt with us

We hunt the northern lights
with flexibility, not fixed routes.

Most northern lights tours in Rovaniemi park at one fixed spot and hope the clouds break. We don't. Every evening our local guides read real-time space-weather data, solar-wind forecasts, cloud maps and satellite imagery, then choose the best direction to drive.

If the clearest sky is an hour away, that's where we go — across Lapland and, when the aurora demands it, over the border into Sweden or Norway. No aurora, no charge.

Step 1 · Meeting pointPickup

Meet us at our officeWe pick you up

The bus tour starts at our city-centre office in Rovaniemi — easy to reach, with parking nearby. Just be there at your departure time and your guide takes it from there. The small-group hunt collects you door-to-door from your accommodation, or a location of your choice, within 10 km of Rovaniemi. No need to find your way anywhere in the cold.

When do we leave? Your pickup time shifts with the season and the sky — anywhere from 17:00 to 21:00. We watch the afternoon weather update and message you the exact time around midday on the day of your hunt, once we know when conditions will be best.

Step 2 · The plan

We read the sky before we drive

Your guide reviews the night's forecasts — live space-weather data, solar-wind, cloud maps and satellite imagery — then explains which direction we'll head and why. Every hunt is planned around where the sky is actually clearest.

Step 3 · The hunt

We drive toward the clearest sky

This is the hunt. We chase gaps in the cloud across Lapland — and cross the border into Sweden or Norway when the aurora demands it — adjusting the route as conditions change. Never parked at one fixed spot, hoping.

Step 4 · Lights found

You watch, we capture it

When we find the Northern Lights, you step out to take them in while your guide hands round hot drinks and traditional snacks — and photographs you under the aurora. Edited shots are delivered within 2–4 days, at no extra cost.

Step 5 · Drop-off

Back to the officeBack to your door

Once the hunt is over we return you to our Rovaniemi office, where the night began.Once the hunt is over we bring you straight back to your original pickup point.

For safety, we typically don't depart when conditions make an aurora display unrealistic, when driving distances become excessive, or when the roads aren't safe.

Good to know

Common questions

When is the best time to see the Northern Lights?

The season runs from September through March. Our experience in the field consistently shows March produces the strongest displays, but it always comes down to luck — cloud cover is the single biggest factor. For the clearest view, aim to visit during a new moon, or when the moon is low in the sky.

Can we see the Northern Lights today?

Historically, our success rate for spotting the Northern Lights is 90–95%. If we can find cloudless skies for long enough, that chance rises to nearly 100%. Displays range from a subtle grey-green band to a vivid, dancing curtain — both count as a sighting.

How long do aurora hunt tours last?

On average 5–8 hours. Small-group hunts can extend up to 12 hours, with driving distances anywhere from 50 to 350 km one way, depending on where the clear sky is that night.

What should I bring on an aurora hunt?

A good attitude, warm clothes and, if you like, some food. We provide light snacks and warm drinks on every hunt.

What is the Guaranteed Aurora Hunt?

While we can't control the weather or guarantee the Northern Lights will appear, we guarantee your satisfaction: if you don't see them, choose a full refund or reschedule as many times as needed until you do.
