Frequently Asked Questions

Got questions? We’ve compiled a list of answers to the most common inquiries about our adventure experiences. If you need more information, don’t hesitate to reach out to us!

When is the best time to see the Northern Lights?

While the Northern Lights season runs from September through March, making any time within this window a good opportunity to see them, the experience ultimately depends on luck and local weather conditions. Autumn often provides clearer skies with less cloud cover, increasing your chances of spotting the aurora.

However, spring (specifically February and March) brings the highest solar activity, which can produce the most intense displays. That said, the strongest Northern Lights can occur in any month during the season if solar storms align with clear skies.

Important Note on Moonlight: The best time to visit is during a New Moon or when the moon is not visible. During a Full Moon or even a Half Moon, the bright moonlight can wash out the sky, making it very difficult to spot the Northern Lights, especially if they are faint. For the best visibility, we highly recommend planning your trip during darker nights when the moon's glow is minimal.

Can we see the northern lights today?

While we cannot predict the future with 100% certainty, historically, our success rate for spotting the Northern Lights is 90–95%. If we are able to locate cloudless skies for a long enough duration, that chance increases to nearly 100% that the aurora will appear at some point during the hunt.

However, please note that we do not control the strength or intensity of the display. On some nights, the lights may be faint, appearing as subtle, cloud-like lines in the sky, while on others they may be vibrant and dancing. Regardless of their intensity, if they are visible, we consider it a successful sighting.

How long do aurora hunt tours last?

Our average tour duration for both Small Group and Group tours is typically 5–8 hours. However, on our Small Group tours, the experience can extend up to 12 hours depending on cloud coverage and how far we need to travel to find clear skies. Driving distances vary significantly by day, ranging from as little as 50 km to as far as 350 km one way.

What should I bring on an aurora hunt?

Good attitude, warm clothes and possibly some food. We offer light snacks and warm drinks on the hunts.

What is Guaranteed Aurora Hunt?

While we cannot control the weather or guarantee that the Northern Lights will appear, we guarantee your satisfaction: if you don't see them, you can choose a full refund or reschedule as many times as needed until you do.

Please note that for your safety and to ensure a worthwhile experience, we typically do not depart if conditions are unrealistic for an aurora display, if driving distances become excessive, or if road conditions are unsafe.
